How to set your winder

Turns per day (TPD). An automatic movement needs a set number of rotations a day to stay wound, usually between 650 and 1,800. Too few and the watch slowly stops; more than needed adds nothing. Start at the lowest program that keeps your watch running.

Direction. Some movements wind clockwise, some counter-clockwise, many both ways. If you are unsure, choose bidirectional: it suits every automatic movement.

Magnetism. Keep the winder away from speakers, phones and other magnets. A magnetized watch can gain or lose several minutes a day and needs a watchmaker to demagnetize it.

Locked with a key, visible behind glass

The glass door closes with a key lock, so the collection stays put in a shared home while remaining on view. Interior lighting shows the watches through the glass, so you see every dial without opening the door.

The pillows are soft and cushioned, and the wooden cabinet has a high-gloss finish. Unplug before cleaning, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, and keep it away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Twelve automatics in an upright cabinet

Six rotors of two pillows, in two columns of three, wind twelve automatic watches. The cabinet is upright, so it takes less depth on a chest of drawers than a long winder box with the same capacity.

With eight or nine automatics today, the remaining pillows leave space for new arrivals. It runs on a plug-in power adapter; choose a study, a dressing room or a bedroom with a wall outlet nearby.

Is the lid real glass or acrylic?

The lid is glass. Clean it with a soft, dry cloth.

Can a winder damage my watch?

Not when it is set correctly. Choose the turns per day and the direction your movement needs (see Winder settings); if in doubt, bidirectional at the lowest program is the safe choice. Keep the winder away from speakers and other magnets.

How many slots do I need?

Count the automatic watches you rotate but do not wear every day: those are the ones a winder keeps running.

Can I return it if it is not right?
