How to set your winder

Turns per day (TPD). An automatic movement needs a set number of rotations a day to stay wound, usually between 650 and 1,800. Too few and the watch slowly stops; more than needed adds nothing. Start at the lowest program that keeps your watch running.

Direction. Some movements wind clockwise, some counter-clockwise, many both ways. If you are unsure, choose bidirectional: it suits every automatic movement.

Magnetism. Keep the winder away from speakers, phones and other magnets. A magnetized watch can gain or lose several minutes a day and needs a watchmaker to demagnetize it.

A glass front that drops down

The full glass front hinges at the base and folds down, so every watch can be reached without lifting the cabinet. Closed, it keeps dust off all eight dials while leaving them in view.

RGB accent lighting runs along the inside of the case. The soft textured pillows hold each watch without rubbing the case back. Wipe the black wood-grain finish with a soft, dry cloth and unplug before cleaning.

This wide cabinet holds eight automatic watches on soft textured pillows, set in two groups of four against a carbon-pattern back panel. It is made for self-winding watches; quartz watches do not need winding.

Allow a wide dresser top or a deep shelf. It runs on a plug-in AC adapter, supplied, so place it near a wall outlet. Check your strap lengths before ordering. Each pillow takes one watch, eight in all.

The lid is glass. Clean it with a soft, dry cloth.

Can a winder damage my watch?

Not when it is set correctly. Choose the turns per day and the direction your movement needs (see Winder settings); if in doubt, bidirectional at the lowest program is the safe choice. Keep the winder away from speakers and other magnets.

How many slots do I need?

Count the automatic watches you rotate but do not wear every day: those are the ones a winder keeps running.
